ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 5 - CUE THE WATERWORKS

Yes, its true... you've read that right. Even I, unflappable, independent woman extraordinaire that I am, can be brought to tears. This is actually a funny story..sort of..

Remember last week, When I was debating on the acrylic piece for the hallway? You can revisit that here. Well- I did all the measurements again and realized none of them would work. One was a few inches too long, one a few inches too short, one not available in store, etc...etc..Normally, I would drown myself in a bottle of wine, put some Biggie (notorious thugs on repeat) on and just say fuck it, but this is what happened instead...I walked into Homegoods looking for some lamp shades and ended up finding an acrylic console the exact size I was looking for. Cue the whip and nae nae in the middle of the store- no shame guys, foreal. I was sooooo happy and decided to come back the next day to pick it up with my husband. Well, I go back and it was gone. It had just been sold. Now normally this would be no biggie (no pun intended) but in conjunction with not being able to get the lamps I REALLY, REALLY wanted, because the seller didn't answer me until today (like hello, don't you wanna make money lady?!?!), not finding the lamp shades that I needed anywhere, and a whole bunch of other shit- I succumbed to my weakness and burst into tears, right there in homegoods. I'm sure I looked super crazy, apposed to my normal crazy, and can now (starting today) laugh at myself but still...not my finest moment. There are people with real problems in the world and I'm over here crying because they sold the console and didn't have black lamp shades. Hysterically ridiculous. But oh so damn funny!! The good part is, My BFF Raf (IG @TheBeauIdeal) got me the console in Jersey and for 20% off! Hes bringing it tomorrow with a bunch of other goodies and I cant wait to finish this hallway!

Now, lets catch up on what happened this week:

The only piece of art I commissioned for the challenge was this whimsy and cute AF portrait of Nala from Danielle @thecollectedeclectic. I just had to take a pic with the snapchat filter so we could match! Shes going on my bookshelf front and center!

Also received all my pillows, WOOOT WOOOT! I'm going to take a few of them off so we can actually sit, but really loving the combo! More is more y'all! I decided not to do the Pierre Frey on the couch because I found a site with so many options for this couch cover, which I will decide on after the challenge. And that DIY is sooooo much work guys!! Ain't nobody got time for that!! I really give it to you DIYers!!

I had my husband move our rug from the bedroom here, and after a good cleaning it looks pretty fabulous. If I do change it out, it will be to a metallic jute from Target- going to live with this one for awhile and see how we like it.

The basic bitch bench got a very subtle makeover. Basically, I just took all the nail heads off because 1) I'm upholstery (and by that I mean DIY) challenged and 2) I'm tired (lazy), and I need a bench for dropping my bag, shoes, etc..and since its new, I kept it as is. Right now it has no legs because its a bit too high with them but, I kind of like how it looks high- obviously by next week Ill decide.

Took each nailhead off with a butter knife
On the dining room side, I hung the vintage bamboo mirror and chose the marble lamp to flank it on the console. Excuse my shitty pic as I forgot to take any others! I'm still waiting for the new batch of ribbon to arrive so I can finish (butcher) the DIY skirt, and add a black tapered parchment shade that I ordered for the marble lamp. Rattan woven tray is arriving tomorrow, and then I can finally set up this area as a bar.

I also had my husband (this is really the ¨all the shit I will make my husband do challenge¨), mount and secure the bookcases to the wall. I LOVE this combo! These basic ikea billy bitches look great with my draper style chests! They are super sturdy and most of my blue and white ginger jar collection took up the top shelf nicely.

All the gaming systems have been moved to the shelves along with art, and little knick knacks. I still haven't made a concrete decision on all my art- but I'm thinking I kind of want to lean a few mixed pieces against the bottom of the bookshelves on each side of the drapers. Maybe a large abstract, a small one, or that really awesome cheeky black and white framed photograph I included in my design board week 1.

Speaking of design boards, the peacock head chairs will most likely not happen, since I still haven't found any for a reasonable price. The pagoda mirror is going to stay in my bedroom since its HUGE and too big to fit over the skirted console, which is where I wanted a mirror. I still have to move my Moroccan wedding blanket under the dining table to be used as a rug. I know some people may not agree but we  barely use this area so I'm not worried, at all, about stains or rips or whatever.

I still have soooo much to do, its crazy!!! I think I definitely bit off more than I could chew! The reason being this is one large room that serves as an entry, living room, dining room and more. Next weeks reveal post is going to be super long and heavy, so start storing your wine bottles now..maybe a few snacks too for good measure!

Here's what I have to finish this week:
  1. Add ribbon and finish skirted console
  2. Set up bar on console
  3. Add Moroccan under table
  4. Hang mirror and choose lamp for said console  done
  5. Upholster bench in palms fabric or die trying (j/k...maybe) FUGGED ABOUT IT
  6. Change out drapery rod done
  7. Paint all trim- done
  8. Clear and style Ello Cabinet
  9. Move rug to the living room  done
  10. Style bookshelves
  11. Hang all art
  12. DIY Pierre Frey couch (or not) Ain't nobody got time for that
  13. Buy acrylic piece for hallway done
  14. Paint brushstrokes directly on bench if upholstering doesn't work- GIRL, BYE
  15. Some other shit I cant remember - STILL
Wish me luck and send positive vibes my way guys!! And don't forget to check out what everybody else is doing!

Xx-Nan
