ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK 1 - GUEST BEDROOM
If you don't know what the One Room Challenge is (have you been living under a rock?), here's a quick recap: Blogger Extraordinaire Linda from +Calling it Home came up with the concept of challenging designers to transform a room in their home, or a clients, or whoever, over a course of 6 weeks, documenting the process with a post every Wednesday, and allowing others to play along and link up as guests every Thursday, keeping us all obsessed. We're like the zombies from the walking dead, but instead of wanting to eat your brain, we just want to see your fabric choices, and paint, and your room makeover, and cheer you on as we follow along! Woooo! Obviously, my husband is super excited. He's actually having surgery today (he picked the date, also-send up a prayer please) which is a little...convenient...since hes my electrician/painter/hanger/mover/whatever, and will be unable to
Now that the ugly has been shown... lets look at some pretty inspiration:
Good shit, right? Inspiration is all Kelly Wearstler, Summer Thornton, Ariane Bartosh and Lilly Bunn. At the moment, I'm heavily into geometric shapes- anything involving squares, overlapping circles, octagons, stripes, diamonds, organic hand draw patterns and so on. Complementing and contrasting pops of colors; chartreuse, lilac, salmon, citron, emerald, with black and white. Natural fibers; grasscloth, jute, shag, fur. Animal patterns; leopard, zebra, tiger. Stone; marble, travertine, malachite, selenite, amethyst. Mixed metals; brass, chrome, iron, rose gold. All types of glass and crystal, lucite, murano, camer and such. Basically, I'm into some expensive shit. The Hermes of design. Burkin bag type. But I'm on a Louis Vuitton budget. Regardless, even with my few bucks, I'm gonna make it happen but my way. As always, I want a hint of whimsy and quirk. Something fun and modern and bright, but cool and glam. Otherwise, It wouldn't really be me. And I firmly believe in rooms being you. So far, the walls have already been painted Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, with the absolute whim decision of a lilac ceiling. Whim decision being all because of Rihanna for Paper Magazine. Behold the genius:
RIRI gives me LIIIIIIIFEEEE!!! Again, the contrasting and complementing colors, the textures- tweed, lace, denim, fur. Its everything I'm obsessed with right now. I also love that its high fashion in the fucking bodega. Its so NY. All we're missing is the cat, meoww. And I totally don't have a fabric that can link to the lilac ceiling but I don't care. Its that good, and I'm so happy I did it. I went with Benjamin Moore "Misty Lilac" and it is EVERYTHING.
I made 2 boards for the room- Board 1 is a bit more me; more color, pattern, abstract art, fun and girly.
Board 2 is very little color, more focused on the elements. The furnishings take center stage, that rug in all its goodness, that chandy..Im in loooove

Guuuurlll - I'm going to have so much fun following along!!! (PS - small typo - this is spring 2017, not 2016... We have the booger pact, you know. I'll tell you if you have a booger, your zipper is down, or in this case, if you've got the wrong date.) #igotchoback
